WHICH 40 SIGNALS DOES THE BRAIN FOCUS ON?

Most of the bits that the brain listens to are about survival.  However, if there seems to be no survival threat, the brain then accepts input based on the agenda of the individual.  For example, if no threat is perceived by the brain, your passion for chocolate will cause your brain to give preference to any signals that have chocolate-bearing information.  The less survival information is needed at any given moment, the greater the number of bits that relate to chocolate will be accepted.

Recalling that of 11 million bits of information only 40 comprise our consciousness: In the year 2007, the population of the New York City was about 8 million people and the population of Chicago was about 3 million people.  Imagine that every single citizen of New York City and Chicago had a piece of information for you.  Eleven million people have information for you, but your brain will only allow 40 to get through.  And, remember, if your brain perceives no threat to your security by the information these forty people are bringing you, and you have a ‘chocolate jones’, then your brain wants to hear only one thing: ‘Tell me about chocolate!’

(Or sex, or UFOs, or angels or anything on your personal agenda.)

AND IT GETS WORSE

In 1965, professor Karl Kupfmuller at Darmstadt Technical University in Germany found that we might actually be aware of 50 bits of information instead of only 40 bits. Better right?  Actually no, because at about the same time, German physiologist Dietrich Trincker showed that there weren’t 11 million bits of information going to the brain, there were more than 40 million bits going to the brain!  And then professor Kupfmuller revealed in his study that there weren’t 11 million bits of information going to the brain, there were actually 100 million bits of information!  So, in reality, professor Kupfmuller was telling the world that our consciousness is based on 50 bits out of 100 million bits of sensory information.

Bad, right?

No.  It is worse.

Professor Helmuth Frank from the famed Institute of Cybernetics at the Padagogischen Hochschule in Berlin found that on a good day, most people do not respond to 50 bits out of 100 million, they respond only to 16 bits out of 100 million bits!

Enough!

Ultimately, our awareness of ‘Reality’, our ‘Consciousness’ is this: of the 100 million bits of information that rush to our brain every second of every single day, only 16 bits are used.  (Divide 100 million by 16!) This means that if the puzzle of ‘Reality’ that surrounds us was made up of 5 million pieces, we get only one piece to figure out what is going on!

Of the 5 million pieces of information your body is sending you, you are responding to only one!  The question is: Which one?
